Dr Ranginui Walker DCNZM, of the Whakatohea tribe, was an author and educator. He received multiple awards and wide recognition for his work. In 2001 he was appointed a Distinguished Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit and in 2003 was appointed to the Waitangi Tribunal. Sadly Dr Walker passed away on 28th February 2016 aged 83.
